This is part 3 of 4 articles in the series. In this article we are discussing getting the the best from your coaching experience. You’ve made a great decision that you need the support of a coach to partner with you on your development journey which we covered in part 1 of this series,. Then in part 2 we focussed on finding the right coach. Here are some nuggets as you embark on your coaching journey.

If you have done all your homework and selected your coach thoughtfully, then your coaching experience is guaranteed to be positive and impactful.

That said, here are some tips to ensure you get the very best from the coaching experience – and bang for your buck.

  • Be clear on your coaching goals -said before but worth reiterating. Focus on no more than 3 areas of opportunity.
  • Prepare before each meeting – be clear on the topic(s) to be covered
  • During the meetings – be open to new ideas and perspectives but also share your concerns
  • At the end of each meeting – agree next steps and any actions to be done in advance of the following meeting

No doubt, the conversations with a skilled coach will be enlightening and there will be many ‘a ha” moments.

But to have a truly impactful coaching experience, you must be prepared to take action.

The actions from coaching conversations need to be executed in the timeline agreed to have and maintain growth momentum.

Without action, coaching conversations are exactly that – conversations. It’s the actions taken that pivot the conversation into growth.

Enjoy!
