You can turn your mess into a message.  When a challenge comes along, ask yourself what I can learn from this?”

I have had challenges with racism in the workplace, particularly when three senior managers banded to make my life difficult over about two years as they attempted to get me to conform me to their will.

The pressure was immense, and, I had to dig deep into God.  I found myself being hypervigilant and having to fortify myself before going to work.  I remember going to a meeting room a couple of times to call a good friend, who gave me wise counsel.  I was ready to leave, but I am glad that I didn’t.  After standing my ground for a while, my reporting line changed to a new and supportive head of service.

You can turn your mess into a message.  When a challenge comes along, ask yourself what I can learn from this?  I’ve also gleaned from the wise counsel of Stormie Omartian, an author – instead of focusing on of all the things that may be wrong, ask yourself – ‘what’s right with this picture’.  You have more strength, tenacity, and capability than you realise – overcome life’s challenges, don’t allow them to run roughshod over you.  Get the help and support you need.  Rest and seek wise counsel before making permanent or life-changing decisions.
