Self-branding is a word that though may not be in the forefront of our minds and development plans, it is one we are communicating every day in our various places of work and to those around us; colleagues, managers, mentees and clients. Who do these people widely recognise you to be?

A good enough definition from Wikipedia for ‘personal branding’ is said to be ‘a uniformed perception of an individual based on their experience, expertise, competencies, actions and/or achievements within a community, industry, or the marketplace at large’.

So if this is a perception of multiple aspects of ‘us’ , how do we ensure the things that matter to us are elevated above what others might want to amplify and often negatively reflect in our unique identity, and in doing so side-line our valuable skills, experiences and personalities.

Our guest speaker Joy Omoregie will be speaking on the theme “Personal branding and positioning at work – 2021 & beyond” and sharing with us from her recent book ‘Woke at Work’ some key strategies for looking at the realities and opportunities of self-branding in the workplace as black women.

This will be followed by a panel discussion led by Elsie Akinsanya a CCN committee member you might recall from her very insightful talk at our launch. Elsie and the panel will share nuggets about ‘Positioning for Success at Work’. Expect the conversation to challenge your thoughts and application of how you have been positioning yourself for success. The panel will explore the importance of mentoring and sponsorship in our career journeys.

Participants will leave this session with insight and learning they can begin to implement right away in their working lives. We do want this to be an interactive session and so we welcome delegates to submit questions in advance of the session to connect@counter-colnetwork.org.uk.
