“If you, yes you, understood just how special you are, nothing can stand in your way of ‘success”
Alisha lucien
Before lockdown I was living my dream.
I was travelling the world and entertaining people doing exactly what I love… singing. When the pandemic hit, all I’d worked for the last ten years came to an unexpected grinding halt.
Even though I was left trying to navigate the unknown, I knew that this wasn’t the time to throw out my core values and beliefs. My natural standpoint has always been that things are always working out and anything that comes into our existence is happening as it should and for a reason.
Having a positive outlook is not just about airy, fairy thinking; in times of challenge, this can be the difference between getting out of bed with stretched arms and choosing to click snooze for the fifth time with the duvet over your head. We all have the power to create an environment that will help us thrive but it starts from within. Our lives are truly a reflection of us – how we treat other people, how we deal with other people, how we process the things happening around us, etc., etc.
Often it’s not easy to change our negative thought patterns and behaviours, especially when a lot is happening outside of our control, but something that has worked for me is repeating affirmations into existence. Even if we think our statements are wild, so what?! We have the power to create our own destinies; we are more likely to achieve success if we start from a position of purpose and belief. Imagine if Usain Bolt started his 100m final race telling himself “I’m not going to win”, “I don’t have this”, “I will never be the champion” – would he be the undisputed fastest man on the planet? Definitely not. We need to apply the same principle to everything we aim to achieve.
Taking each day at a time and practising gratitude, even for the smallest things such as waking up, will open the door to success, but not the success that is a carbon copy of Jill next door. The type of success you can expect is the one you’ve spoken into existence and reflects what is important to you. The pressures of society, compounded by social media, will have us thinking that we aren’t good enough and that our value depends on what others think. This just isn’t it.
If you, yes you, understood just how special you are, nothing can stand in your way of ‘success’.
I’m grateful to be running a new business that I adore (Present your joy) and living every day in the present, appreciating that I’m part of something that not only brings me happiness but also brings joy to others.
Focus on what makes you happy, be kind to yourself, be intentional in your goals and speak them into existence. You’ve got this!
